We're remote workers who got tired of gear advice from people who clearly didn't work from home. So we built the site we always wanted.
Home Office Insider was founded in 2022 by a small team of full-time remote workers (a product designer, a software engineer, and a writer) who'd spent years dealing with back pain, terrible video call setups, and gear recommendations that seemed designed for people who only used their desk for an hour a day.
We're not journalists reviewing products we'll return in a week. We work from home every day. We use this stuff. The Herman Miller Aeron in the chair review has been under one of our team members for two years. The Flexispot desk in the standing desk article is in another team member's spare bedroom. The Krisp subscription is billed to a real credit card every month.
That's the standard we hold ourselves to: if we wouldn't actually use it at our own desks, we won't recommend it to you.
Founder & Editor. Remote worker since 2018. Desk setup: Uplift V2, Aeron B, dual 27" monitors.
Product Reviewer & Photographer. Tests all chairs and desks. Runs cold. Strong opinions on heated office gear.
Tech & Software Writer. Covers productivity tools, AI apps, and anything with a power cable. Remote since 2020.
We test every product we review ourselves — no exceptions. For physical gear like desks and chairs, testing means using the product as our primary workstation for at least two weeks. For software and AI tools, it means actively using them as part of our real workflow, not a contrived demo environment.
For gear reviews, our standard testing process includes:
We update our articles regularly. If a product we recommended has declined in quality, increased significantly in price, or been superseded by something better, we update the article and explain why. We'd rather send traffic to the right product than defend an outdated recommendation.
Brands cannot pay to be featured on Home Office Insider. We have never accepted payment in exchange for a positive review or a placement in a "best of" list. If you see a product featured here, it's because we tested it and genuinely think it's worth your money.
We occasionally receive review units from manufacturers — a sample sent to us for testing. When this happens, we disclose it in the review. Receiving a review unit has no influence on our assessment; we've published negative reviews of products sent to us for free, and we've given top rankings to products we purchased ourselves at full retail price.
Many of the links on Home Office Insider are affiliate links. This means that if you click a link to a product and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission from the retailer — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same whether you use our link or navigate to the retailer directly.
Affiliate commissions are how we fund the site — paying for our gear, our time, and our hosting costs. Without them, this site wouldn't exist.
Critically: our editorial decisions are made before any monetization is considered. We test products, rank them on merit, and then add affiliate links where they exist. If the best product in a category doesn't have an affiliate program (as is sometimes the case with IKEA, for example), we link to it anyway and simply don't earn a commission. Our first obligation is to you — the reader who needs accurate gear advice.
We participate in the Amazon Associates program, as well as affiliate programs run by Flexispot, Uplift Desk, Autonomous, Herman Miller (where available), Logitech, and various software companies. All affiliate relationships are disclosed at the top of every review article.
